Lewis vs Hunt
One of MMA’s most colorful characters Derrick Lewis faces his toughest test to date taking on hard-hitting Mark Hunt on his own turf this Saturday night.
Fresh off his brutal knockout of Travis Browne, Lewis is continuing the habit of staying active. This fight will be Lewis’s seventh in under two years, currently, the win streak in that period stands at six on the bounce with five of those coming by way of stoppage. On the subject of staying active, one surprising fact relating to this fight is even though Mark Hunt made his MMA debut 6 years before Derrick Lewis he’s only had two more total MMA contests.
Maybe not as technically competent compared to the top five heavyweights in the division but Lewis is a serious threat to anyone due to his sheer size and knockout power. A win over Mark Hunt will earn Lewis serious respect and the possibility of some big fights.
Mark Hunt has seen mixed form of late, knockout wins against Antonio Silva & Frank Mir sandwiched between knockout losses to Alistair Overeem, Stipe Miocic, & Fabricio Werdum. At 43 years old you have to wonder how long Hunt can survive in the shark tank that is the heavyweight division, arguably the hardest punching heavyweight Hunt needs a win this weekend to prove he’s still able to compete with the top guys in the division.
Candidate for Fight of the Night
Dan Hooker vs Ross Pearson
Ross Pearson’s record is filled with names any MMA fan would instantly recognize, he may not always be victorious but he’s got a gritty toughness along with a determined attitude to fighting which usually makes for exciting fights.
Dan Hooker has had some tough match up’s and will be looking to get back in the wins column, his Muay Thai base should complement Pearson’s striking nicely.
You have here two guy’s who desperately need a win, expect some fierce exchanges.
